After the death of Skaluni, Kalaj and her tribe land on the moon called Ayash where they find adapting to a new life challenging. After a fatal encounter while searching for food, the tribe's hunters engage hostile forces--spirit beings--that will protect their own. Threats mount with each new day, and the once-enemy Howlers now seem to be their only defense in this hostile world. Can Kalaj find a way to keep the people safe, or is it her destiny to strike out on her own so she can live her last days in peace?
