Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1875-1932) was one of the most popular writers of the early 20th century, a master of detective fiction and adventure thrillers. He was born in Greenwich into a family of actors, but his path to fame was not easy. Having dropped out of school at the age of 12, he changed many occupations, and then joined the military. In 1896, he went to South Africa, where he served in the medical units of the British Army, and after demobilization, he became a journalist and editor. Wallace's literary career began with difficulty, but in the 1910s, commercial success came, and in the 1920s, he became the most published writer in England: every fourth published book was his novel. During his life, he wrote 173 novels, 23 plays and more than 1,000 short stories, while continuing to work in journalism. 170 films were made based on his works, and he died in Hollywood while working on the script for the famous "King Kong".

This volume presents two novels that reflect the best of Wallace's work.
