Lynn, a lucrative author of horror, runs into trouble when a fan begins using her plots in real life. The police advise the reclusive author to hire a full-time bodyguard when the fan breaks into her home. Very selective with whom she aligns, she turns to a man she's never met but has kept as an advisor over the internet for three years. A war-torn veteran, Jeff has seen more than he cares to admit. Having been under Lynn's employment, he's watched her flirt from afar but shutting him down fast when he gets too friendly. Valuing his own seclusion, he offers her his place for protection and proceeds to remind her that she needs humanity.
