Kurt J. G. Baird earned his doctorate from the University of York in history for his study of the wartime experience of frontline soldiers and its influence on the political culture of the Habsburg Monarchy during the Age of Revolutions. He has published on the culture of conscription in the Habsburg lands, the grassroots experience of the Coalition Wars in Austria, and the influence of natural law on military honor in the eighteenth century. His research has been funded by the German History Society and the Anglo-Austrian Society. He has taught political and European history at the University of York.
