Arthur Conan Doyle  (1859-1930) was a British writer, physician, and one of the most influential figures in popular literature. He is best known as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, the iconic consulting detective whose methods of observation and deduction reshaped the detective genre and left a lasting mark on world culture.

Born in Edinburgh, Conan Doyle trained as a medical doctor, a background that strongly influenced Holmes's logical reasoning and scientific approach to crime. While practicing medicine, he began publishing fiction, achieving international fame with A Study in Scarlet (1887), the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
