For more than two decades, Rabbi Yael Levy has developed a unique approach to Mindfulness that, while deeply rooted in Jewish texts and tradition, has proven meaningful to people of different faiths and paths. She is a founder and the director of A Way In Jewish Mindfulness organization and Rabbi Emerita of Mishkan Shalom congregation in Philadelphia, where she served for 28 years. Rabbi Yael's 2010 guide to Counting the Omer, Journey through the Wilderness, helped expand interest in this ancient Jewish practice. Directing the Heart (2018) provided Mindfulness Teachings and Practices inspired by the weekly Torah portions. In all her books, classes, online teachings and retreats, Rabbi Yael shares her love of the Psalms. She is a graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and has completed training programs with the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. For four years, she co-led the Institute's Mindfulness retreats in the wilds of Alaska. She is a spiritual director for rabbinical students and in private practice.
An avid hiker and kayaker, all of Rabbi Yael's offerings are informed by a passionate connection to Earth and a deep commitment to the well-being of all life. Named one of "America's Most Inspiring Rabbis" by the Jewish Forward in 2014, her work has been featured in the New York Times, Huffington Post and other publications.
