Keep Your Eyes on Heaven is a rich and revelatory account of Tyler Owen Hendricks' path from a California rock band to the presidency of the Unification Church and beyond. Tyler grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1950s and 60s. He witnessed the emergence of the sex, drugs and rock'n'roll culture that defines much of western culture to this day. At the same time he had spiritual experiences of God. He pursued a Zen Buddhist path, learned in college what he didn't want to do with his life, and sought to find meaning as a rock musician. He realized that rock music is part of "the military-industrial complex," and that the greatest of rock stars appear to be unhappy. In November of 1972, the spirit world guided him to "the Oakland family." There he discovered God's dwelling place on earth, and within three months he moved in.
Tyler was a center member, fundraiser and lecturer in Oakland, New Hampshire, the New York City metro area and on mobile teams before graduating from Unification Theological Seminary (UTS) and Vanderbilt University Divinity School's doctoral program. By God's grace he spent most of his adult life in close proximity to Father and Mother Moon, the True Parents. At their invitation he sent his photo to Korea and was matched to his beloved wife, Hyeyong Lee. Blessed in marriage in 1982, he and Hyeyong have been blessed with five children and twelve grandchildren.
Through a path of lay-down-your-life obedience, Tyler has sought nothing more than to serve the will of God to bring the original ideal of creation, that of peace, freedom, unity and happiness for all, into reality. He served in Ocean Church, a collegiate association, ecumenical and interfaith projects, church leadership and as a professor of church history and ministry. At Holy Mother Han's call, he is currently writing an only begotten Daughter theology and a new expression of Divine Principle. He prays that his memoir may serve as a gateway for many to find their unique path to our shared destination, on earth and in heaven.
