Zusammenfassung

This book provides a critical analysis of finance, governance, and accounting in the football industry.

With money and boardroom decision-making at the centre of debates regarding on- and off-field aspects of football today, this book helps the reader to develop a deeper understanding of these issues. Featuring the work of leading experts and researchers in football business, the book offers an assessment of current practices, asking which work in the football world and, perhaps more importantly, which do not, and why. The book takes an in-depth look at some of the hottest topics in modern football, including global and regional issues, profit and sustainability rules, ownership, fan involvement, the transfer market, financial corruption, financial assessment, regulation, gender inclusion, the growing women's game, transparency and accountability, and what good governance looks like.

Explaining complicated concepts in easily understandable ways, and developing practical insight, this is essential reading for any course on sport finance, business and management, or the business of football. It is also invaluable reading for anybody with a career, or hoping to build a career, in the football industry.

Mark Middling is an Assistant Professor at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University, UK. Mark researches the governance, accountability, and business of football clubs. He has published multiple articles, and guest edited a number of journal Special Issues in this area. Through his efforts with campaign groups, Mark's work has been quoted in the UK Parliament, and he often provides expert commentary in printed media and on TV and radio news. Mark is the Chief Finance Officer for Blyth Spartans AFC, a non-league club based in Northumberland, UK. Mark's teaching interests focus on management accounting and accounting for non-specialists. Mark spent ten years as a qualified CIMA Management Accountant and Financial Controller in the industry before joining Northumbria University in 2015.

Daniel Plumley is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Finance in the School of Sport, Exercise & Health Sciences at Loughborough University, UK. He is an established academic leader with a strong external presence in both the sport business sector and media. He has over 15 years' experience teaching and researching in the field of applied sport finance and regularly consults with the industry on sport finance matters. He often presents at major international sport management conferences, is an active researcher, delivering funded projects for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), and a recognised commentator in the global media on sport finance. He is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and an independent non-executive director (INED) with the English Football League (EFL) in the Community.
